A historic site that evokes the grandeur of a castle destroyed by the "One Castle per Domain" policy.
Sasiki Castle was a Japanese castle located in Sasiki, Yatsushiro County, Higo Province (present-day Sasiki, Ashikita-cho, Kumamoto Prefecture). Although attributed to the Sagara clan, concrete historical evidence is lacking. The castle was abandoned under the "One Castle per Domain" policy. Starting in 1993, Ashikita-cho conducted excavation work and restored the stone walls as they appeared after the castle's destruction. Now developed as a historical park, visitors can imagine its former magnificence. The stone walls and castle keep base, viewed from the foot of the hill, are particularly impressive, making it a popular spot for experiencing a tangible connection to the past. The park also features a museum and rest areas, offering a relaxing place to learn about history. Visit Sasiki Castle Ruins and contemplate the Sengoku period and the history of the Sagara clan.
