Shibukawa Animal Park is a privately owned zoo located in Shibukawa, Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture.
Operating under the concept of "Encountering animals in their natural state," it's managed by Nature Farm Setouchi Co., Ltd. The expansive park, covering approximately 30,000 tsubo (approx. 9.9 acres), preserves a natural, wild mountain atmosphere by leaving the visitor paths unpaved. This allows visitors to connect with animals while experiencing the changing seasons.
The park houses approximately 600 animals of about 80 species. While there are no large predators like lions or tigers, visitors can interact with a variety of animals, including ponies, goats, rabbits, dogs, and cats. Fruit trees such as cherry, plum, and persimmon are also planted throughout the park, offering opportunities for cherry blossom viewing or fruit picking depending on the season.
Shibukawa Animal Park is a true "healing space," offering a chance to enjoy nature and animal interactions not found in urban settings.
The park boasts a long history, beginning in 1968 as a rooftop zoo at Yoshiokayaya in Koshima, Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture. It later relocated to the rooftop of Tenmanya (currently Happy Town Tamano) in Tamano City, before finally settling in its current location in 1988.
Shibukawa Animal Park continues to be a beloved zoo for local residents, providing a place for interaction with animals and nature.
