A historic temple dating back to the Kamakura period, offering beautiful seasonal flowers. Especially stunning are the cherry blossoms in spring and hydrangeas in early summer.
Hase-dera Temple is a Koyasan Shingon sect temple located in Atsugi City, Kanagawa Prefecture, nestled on the mid-slope of Mount Hakusan in the Tanzawa mountain range. A historic temple with roots stretching back to the Kamakura period, it's also known as the sixth temple on the Bandō Sanjūsankannon pilgrimage route. Legend states that it was founded by Kobo Daishi in 807 AD, after Gyoki Bosatsu's initial construction in 725 AD, with the local lord, Iizuka Gontayu, establishing the temple buildings based on his faith. The temple grounds boast numerous historic structures, including the main hall housing the Eleven-faced Kannon statue, and a Kannon hall containing a Jatai-butsu (胎内仏 - a Buddha image enshrined within a larger statue) hand-carved by Gyoki Bosatsu. Another attraction is the stunning seasonal flowers. Cherry blossoms in spring, hydrangeas in early summer, and autumn foliage offer diverse beauty throughout the year. Surrounded by nature, Hase-dera offers a tranquil space to rest and rejuvenate while experiencing history and culture. It's an ideal destination for those seeking a peaceful and relaxing getaway.
