A historic shrine founded when Fukagawa Hachiroemon enshrined a divine spirit from Ise Grand Shrine.
Fukagawa Shinmei-gu Shrine is located in Morishita, Koto-ku, Tokyo, and was founded in the Keicho period (1596-1615). Tradition holds that Fukagawa Hachiroemon, who developed this area, enshrined a divine spirit from Ise Grand Shrine, giving rise to the name "Fukagawa". Having received a divine spirit from Ise Grand Shrine, Fukagawa Shinmei-gu Shrine is enveloped in a sacred atmosphere. Despite its urban location, it offers a tranquil and serene environment. While the grounds are not expansive, they are meticulously maintained, perfect for a leisurely stroll. The shrine hosts various ceremonies throughout the year, including New Year's visits (Hatsumode), Shichi-Go-San (a celebration for children), and weddings. The grounds also feature Fukagawa Hachiroemon's grave and Jurojin Shrine, dedicated to Jurojin, one of the Fukagawa Seven Gods of Fortune. The shrine's convenient location, a mere 2-minute walk from Morishita Station, adds to its appeal. It's an ideal place for those seeking a peaceful respite while experiencing a touch of history.
