The Yokoyama Taikan Memorial Museum is a museum built by partially renovating the former residence of Yokoyama Taikan, a master of modern Japanese painting. Except for a period during the Pacific War, Taikan lived and worked here from 1909 until his death in 1958. Most of the existing buildings were constructed in 1954 after the war. The museum displays works by Taikan, as well as those by artists such as Shunso, Imozen, and Kansan, along with art objects Taikan cherished during his lifetime. Exhibitions change every three months. The Yokoyama Taikan Memorial Museum is also known as Taikan's official authentication institution. The building was designated as a historical site of Taito Ward in 1994 (as "Yokoyama Taikan's Former Residence") and, in February 2017, was designated as a national historical site and place of scenic beauty as "Yokoyama Taikan's Former Residence and Garden". Visiting the Yokoyama Taikan Memorial Museum allows you to not only experience Taikan's artistic world but also learn about Japanese traditional culture and history. A stroll through the beautiful garden offers a chance for relaxation and rejuvenation. Come and experience the beauty of Japan at the Yokoyama Taikan Memorial Museum.
