Bihoro Pass is located on the border between Teshikaga and Bihoro towns in eastern Hokkaido. From the 525m-high observation deck, you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of the majestic landscape.
Below stretches Lake Kussharo, Japan's largest caldera lake. You can see Nakajima Island floating on its blue surface, the surrounding mountains, and on a clear day, a breathtaking vista extending far into the distance.
Especially at dawn and dusk, a magical sea of clouds sometimes forms, captivating many visitors.
The appearance of a sea of clouds depends on several factors, including high humidity, low temperature, and calm winds. Seeing it is a matter of luck, but if you do, it will be an unforgettable experience.
Bihoro Pass is famous as a sea of clouds spot, and from May to October, you might be lucky enough to witness a large-scale sea of clouds covering Lake Kussharo.
Bihoro Pass is also a popular rest stop for drivers and tourers. The roadside station "Gurutto Panorama Bihoro Pass" is located nearby, offering restaurants, shops, and rest areas, making it a perfect spot for a sightseeing break.
With plenty of local cuisine and souvenirs, it's well worth a visit.
Bihoro Pass is a beloved spot where many people can enjoy the natural beauty of Hokkaido. Be sure to visit!
