The Nakabaru Site is a late Jomon period settlement ruin located on Ikeijima Island in Uruma City, Okinawa Prefecture. One of Okinawa's few remaining Jomon period sites, it was discovered in what was once a sugarcane field. The site boasts the remains of 23 pit dwellings, along with unearthed pottery and stone tools. Developed as Okinawa's first reconstructed village site, it offers a glimpse into the daily life of the Jomon people. The reconstructed pit dwellings, built using period techniques, can be entered. A display of excavated pottery and stone tools further enriches the visitor experience, stimulating the imagination about life in the Jomon period. Ikeijima Island, a short 15-minute ferry ride from mainland Okinawa, is surrounded by beautiful beaches and stunning natural scenery.
