A place connected to the late Edo period patriot Sakamoto Ryoma! A must-visit for Ryoma fans.
Teradaya is renowned as the place where Sakamoto Ryoma, a prominent figure of the late Edo period, stayed and was attacked in 1862. Ryoma suffered serious injuries in this assassination attempt, but miraculously survived thanks to the quick thinking of Oryo, who later became his wife. This incident was a pivotal moment in Ryoma's life, significantly influencing his beliefs and actions. While the original building no longer exists, a monument marks the spot where the Teradaya inn stood, and exhibits showcase materials illustrating Ryoma's time there.
