The Tanabe Museum of Art is a Shimane Prefecture-registered corporate museum located in Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture, Japan.
Established as the Tanabe Museum of Art Foundation by the 23rd Chobei Tanabe, who served as a member of the House of Representatives, president of Shimane Shimbun, and governor of Shimane Prefecture. The core of its collection is comprised of tea ceremony-related art pieces from the Tanabe family.
The museum is situated in the beautiful Shiomi-nawate district along the moat of Matsue Castle. Only the long gate is visible from the street. Beyond the gate lies the main building, completed in 1979 and designed by renowned architect Kiyonori Kikutake.
