A museum serving as a cultural hub in Kitakata's 'Kura no Machi,' engaging in community-based activities.
Overview
The Kitakata City Museum of Art is located in Kitakata City, Fukushima Prefecture. Opened in April 1995, it houses works by artists with ties to Kitakata City and the Aizu region, as well as paintings, sculptures, and crafts from Japan and abroad. Designed to resemble a brick warehouse, reflecting its location in Kitakata's 'Kura no Machi,' the building incorporates bricks fired in Kitakata City.
The museum showcases its collection in several curated exhibitions held annually, alongside special exhibitions. The 'Hometown Scenery Exhibition,' held since its opening, is the only public art competition of its kind among Fukushima Prefecture's public museums.
The surrounding area is developed as a cultural zone, adjacent to the Kitakata Plaza Culture Center, Oshikirigawa Park Gymnasium, baseball field, and Kitakata Kura no Sato (warehouse district).
The Kitakata City Museum of Art displays numerous works that capture the rich natural beauty and history of the Aizu region. Prioritizing local artists, it offers a unique collection. The exhibition halls provide bright, open spaces with a calm atmosphere perfect for leisurely viewing. The area surrounding the museum also boasts a charming warehouse district and lush parks, ideal for a relaxing stroll.
A visit to the Kitakata City Museum of Art provides a wonderful opportunity to experience the culture of the Aizu region and spend a heartwarming time.
