Saikoku-ji Temple

Overview

Saikoku-ji Temple is the head temple of the Shingon sect's Daigo school and has long been known as "the number one temple in the western provinces." Upon reaching the top of the 108 stone steps, visitors are rewarded with stunning panoramic views of the Onomichi Strait. As you climb, the lush greenery and historic stone monuments will slow down the passage of time. The temple grounds boast numerous Important Cultural Properties, including a three-story pagoda said to have been donated by Ashikaga Yoshimitsu and the Kondo (main hall) rebuilt by the Yamanami clan.
