Senkoji Temple is a Shingon Buddhist temple located in Onomichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture, nestled halfway up Senkojiyama mountain at an elevation of approximately 140 meters. Famous for its stunning views overlooking Onomichi's waterways and cityscape, this temple boasts a long history, with its founding reportedly dating back to 806. Said to have been founded by Kobo Daishi (Kukai), it has attracted numerous literary figures and remains a popular spot for literature enthusiasts. From the main hall, you can enjoy panoramic views of Onomichi's waterways, cityscape, and Mukōjima island, a sight that has captivated many photographers and painters. Featured in Fumiko Hayashi's "Hōrōki" (Wandering Diary), it's frequently mentioned in literary works. Enjoy beautiful scenery throughout the year, with cherry blossoms in spring and autumn foliage. Senkojiyama mountain is home to Senkoji Park, featuring an observation deck at the summit.
