Kofu Castle Ruins

Overview

Kofu Castle Ruins are located in Kofu City, Yamanashi Prefecture. This is the site of a castle built by Takeda Shingen, a prominent warlord of the Sengoku period. Situated atop a hill at an elevation of 264.9 meters, it once served as a formidable fortress overlooking the Kofu Basin. Shingen used this castle as his base to unify Kai Province and later expanded his influence into the Kanto region and Shinano Province. However, in 1582, Takeda Katsuyori, Shingen's successor, was attacked by the combined forces of Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi, resulting in the fall of Kofu Castle. Later, Kofu Castle was rebuilt by Tokugawa Ieyasu, but it was abandoned during the Meiji period. Today, remnants of the castle, including stone walls and moats, still remain. From Kofu Castle Ruins, visitors can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the Kofu Basin. Cherry blossoms abound in spring, and the autumn foliage is stunning, attracting many tourists throughout the year.
