Overview

Tonaki Island is a small island located approximately 40km southwest of Okinawa Main Island. With a circumference of about 10km, an area of 3.86 square kilometers, and a population of around 400, it's a peaceful island surrounded by beautiful beaches and abundant nature. The incredibly clear waters are perfect for snorkeling and diving. The island also preserves historic houses and traditional performing arts, offering opportunities to interact with the friendly locals. Tonaki Island was once called "Tomushi-jima." This name is confirmed in a population census conducted around 1870 by the Kagoshima domain. Today, Tonaki Island, including Irisuna Island, forms the municipality of Tonaki Village. Tonaki Island is a highly recommended destination to experience the natural beauty and culture of Okinawa.
