Crystal-clear spring water selected as one of Japan's 100 Best Water Sources.
Located in Yusui-cho, Aira-gun, Kagoshima Prefecture, Maruike Spring Water is a pond boasting an abundant water supply, as its name suggests. Selected as one of Japan's 100 Best Water Sources, its crystal-clear water is so beautiful it feels purifying just to look at it. This spring water is reportedly formed by rain falling near the 600-meter elevation of Kirishima mountain range's Kurino-dake peak, seeping into the ground, and emerging after 35 years. The abundant daily flow of approximately 60,000 tons is used for the town's water supply and irrigation. A walking path has been built around Maruike Spring Water, allowing visitors to leisurely enjoy nature. In spring, cherry blossoms abound, and in summer, fireflies dance, offering beautiful scenery throughout the year. The "Maruike Spring Water Appreciation Evening" event held in early September is particularly enchanting, with approximately 1,000 bamboo lanterns illuminating the pond and surrounding area, creating a magical atmosphere. Maruike Spring Water is a beloved local gathering place and a must-visit for anyone in the area.
