An urban oasis where you can feel the beautiful scenery and history of Yokohama Port.
Elephant's Trunk Park is a precious place that conveys the history of Yokohama Port's opening to foreign trade. Yokohama Port, opened in 1859, developed from this Elephant's Trunk district. The Elephant's Trunk breakwater, constructed in the Meiji era, is a symbol of Yokohama Port and was restored to its Meiji mid-period appearance in 2009. From atop the breakwater, you can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of Yokohama Port, including the cityscape of Yokohama and even Mount Fuji in the distance. The park also preserves many remnants from the time of the port's opening, making it ideal for historical exploration. For example, "Kaikō Hashiba," an open square where you can feel the port from Nihon-odori Street, retains the remains of the tracks and turntable used for cargo handling in the Meiji era. Furthermore, "Kaikō no Oka," a grassy square with a gentle slope offering a view of the port and sea, features a symbolic statue called "Time-Traveling Elephant (Perry)", which has witnessed Yokohama's 150-year history. This statue evokes a powerful message of Yokohama's future. Elephant's Trunk Park offers stunning views of Yokohama's cityscape and the sea during the day, and at night, the beautifully illuminated Yokohama cityscape creates a magical atmosphere. It's a recommended sightseeing spot offering diverse enjoyment, from strolling and dating to historical exploration.
