Surrounded by the beautiful nature of the Seto Inland Sea, this island is a true haven of relaxation where you can spend a leisurely time interacting with approximately 500-600 rabbits.
Overview
Okunoshima Island, located in Tadanoumi-cho, Takehara City, Hiroshima Prefecture, is an island approximately 4km in circumference. Once a poison gas factory, it was known as the "island erased from maps." During the Pacific War, its existence was removed from maps to protect military secrets. However, after the war's end, nature gradually recovered, and now, as "Rabbit Island," home to approximately 500-600 rabbits, it attracts many tourists from Japan and abroad. The island boasts accommodations, hot springs, a poison gas museum, and a visitor center, offering a full day of activities. A unique highlight is interacting with the friendly rabbits inhabiting the island. You can feed them, take pictures, and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Seto Inland Sea while cycling or fishing. Walking paths for interacting with rabbits and historical sites showcasing the poison gas factory ruins are also scattered throughout the island. Okunoshima Island is a captivating island where you can enjoy nature, history, and animal interaction. Be sure to visit!
