A roughly 100,000-tsubo (approximately 330,000 square meters) Japanese garden sprawling along Lake Shinji. It's a peaceful space where the beautiful scenery woven from seasonal flowers and greenery harmonizes with the majestic Lake Shinji and the unique charm of a Japanese garden.
Yushien is a vast Japanese garden spanning approximately 100,000 tsubo (approximately 330,000 square meters) along the shores of Lake Shinji in Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture. Established in 1983, the garden was the vision of the late Yasuo Murata, who was determined to preserve the local landscape by developing this area into a garden. Yushien's garden centers around a pond-style strolling garden, featuring a wide variety of plants. You can enjoy beautiful scenery throughout the year, with cherry blossoms in spring, lotuses in summer, and autumn leaves in the fall. The garden also includes a tea room and restaurant, providing opportunities to relax, savor a traditional tea ceremony, or enjoy a meal. Yushien is a tranquil space where nature and culture blend seamlessly. The founder, Yasuo Murata, was determined to preserve the local landscape, deciding to develop this land as a garden. He knew this area was once a beloved landscape of Matsue Domain Lord Matsudaira Fumai. Lord Fumai was a connoisseur of tea ceremony, calligraphy, waka (classical Japanese poetry), and garden design. Mr. Murata, inheriting Lord Fumai's spirit, created this Japanese garden. Yushien can be considered a modern revival of Lord Fumai's garden design tradition. Located on the shores of Lake Shinji, the garden uses the magnificent lake as its backdrop. Within the garden, there is a pond-style strolling garden, a tea room, and a restaurant, offering a relaxing place to stroll, enjoy tea, or have a meal. Various types of plants are planted throughout, providing beautiful scenery year-round: cherry blossoms in spring, lotuses in summer, and autumn leaves in fall. Yushien is a soothing space where nature and culture blend harmoniously. We encourage you to visit.
