Explore a real ninja house from the Edo period, where Koka ninjas actually lived!
The Koka-ryu Ninjutsu House is a ninja house located in Koka City, Shiga Prefecture. This historic building, originally constructed during the Genroku period, served as the residence of Mochizuki Izumo no Kami, head of the Koka 53 families. While the exterior resembles a typical Japanese house, the interior is filled with ingenious mechanisms designed to defend against enemies. These include trapdoors in the floor, hidden rooms in the walls, and even hidden ladders descending from the ceiling—all authentically used by ninjas of the time. The house also displays precious artifacts including the "Koka-ryu Densho" (Tiger Scroll), a record of Koka ninja techniques, as well as shuriken (throwing stars) and makibishi (caltrops). These exhibits offer a glimpse into the lives and skills of ninjas. You can also participate in ninja experiences, such as shuriken throwing and photo opportunities dressed as a ninja. The Koka-ryu Ninjutsu House is a recommended sightseeing spot for history buffs, ninja enthusiasts, and families with children.
