Taro-bo Gu is a shrine located atop Mount Akagami (432m) in Higashi-Omi City, Shiga Prefecture. It's deeply revered as a deity of victory, success, and good fortune, particularly popular among athletes and students preparing for exams. The history of Taro-bo Gu stretches back centuries. During the reign of Emperor Kinmei, rituals were reportedly performed using large rocks, including the Meotoiwa, as sacred stones. Later, during the reign of Empress Suiko, Prince Shotoku is said to have established a shrine dedicated to Ninigi-no-Mikoto on Mount Akagami, while building Wakayadera Temple. The grounds are filled with captivating sights, including the sacred Meotoiwa, and the Kaiun no Komichi (Path of Good Fortune). Legend claims the Meotoiwa were split apart by divine power, and those with ill intentions are said to be squeezed if they attempt to pass between them. It's also said that a Tengu resides here. The Kaiun no Komichi is believed to grant wishes to those who walk its path with a sincere heart. From the summit, you can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the lush natural beauty of Omi. The scenery changes dramatically with the seasons, with stunning cherry blossoms in spring and vibrant autumn foliage. Taro-bo Gu is also renowned as a power spot, a place with a special atmosphere that soothes the soul. Be sure to pay it a visit.
