Overview

Atagawa Tropical & Alligator Garden, located in Higashiizu-cho, Shizuoka Prefecture, is a zoo specializing in crocodiles and tropical plants. It proudly boasts the world's largest collection of crocodile species, housing approximately 140 crocodiles of 17 different kinds. Not only is the variety of crocodiles unparalleled, but the sheer number of individuals is also top-class in Japan, making it a paradise for crocodile enthusiasts. The garden features exhibition corners where you can learn about crocodile ecology, and even opportunities to participate in crocodile feeding experiences. It's also famous for being the only facility in Japan to breed and raise the rare Western Lesser Panda, offering visitors a chance to see these adorable creatures. The tropical plant greenhouse allows for up-close observation of various southern plants, and even includes an Amazonian manatee exhibit. Atagawa Tropical & Alligator Garden utilizes geothermal heat for crocodile breeding and tropical plant cultivation, ensuring enjoyment year-round. With an on-site restaurant and gift shop, you can easily spend a full day enjoying the facilities. Its excellent access, just a one-minute walk from Izu Atagawa Station, makes it a must-visit during your trip to Izu.
