Sanshirojima has been known for its beautiful scenery since ancient times. Legend says it's named after "Izu no Sanshiro," a retainer of Minamoto no Yoritomo. The tombolo phenomenon, where Sanshirojima and the mainland connect, is a natural phenomenon caused by the tides. At low tide, the sea recedes, connecting the land and the islands with a sandbar, allowing people to walk across. This unusual phenomenon captivates many and makes it a popular sightseeing spot in Nishiizu. Be careful when walking across, as some areas can be unstable. Check the tide times beforehand. Besides the tombolo, Sanshirojima offers stunning seascapes and unique rock formations. A boat trip around the islands is also recommended; it offers views impossible to see from land.
