A breathtaking spot where you can enjoy the golden cliffs bathed in the setting sun and the magnificent view of Suruga Bay!
Koganezaki is a cape facing Suruga Bay, located in Nishiizu-cho, Kamo-gun, Shizuoka Prefecture. It was formed when lava from an underwater volcanic eruption solidified, later altered and discolored by hot spring water and geothermal activity, creating the beautiful golden cliffs we see today. The name "Koganezaki" (Golden Cape) comes from the way these cliffs gleam golden when illuminated by the setting sun. Koganezaki Park encompasses the area around Koganezaki. It features walking paths, observation decks, and a grassy square, offering stunning views. The park also boasts many attractions, including a unique rock formation called "Uma Rock" that resembles a horse's head. From the observation deck, you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of Mount Fuji, Suruga Bay, and the Izu Islands. On a clear day, you can even see Mount Fuji in the distance, offering a breathtaking vista. Koganezaki Park is also part of the "Izu Peninsula Geopark," allowing you to experience the history of the earth. You can observe the geological layers and rocks, and visit exhibitions about the geopark. Koganezaki Park is a captivating tourist spot where you can connect with nature and enjoy magnificent scenery.
