Mikata Go-ko is a collective name for five lakes (Suigetsu-ko, Suga-ko, Mikata-ko, Kugushiko-ko, and Hinata-ko) straddling Wakasa-cho and Mihama-cho in Fukui Prefecture's Reihoku region.
Waters of varying salinity mix together, fostering a unique ecosystem known as a brackish lake.
There are areas with well-maintained walking paths along the lakeshores, allowing you to enjoy the beautiful scenery throughout the four seasons.
Cherry blossoms abound in spring, summer offers opportunities for swimming and fishing, autumn paints the mountains with vibrant foliage, and winter creates a fantastical landscape with snow.
Furthermore, numerous historical sites and cultural facilities are scattered around Mikata Go-ko, making it a place where you can enjoy history and nature simultaneously.
For example, there's the Torihama Shell Mounds, a Jomon-period archeological site, and the Wakasa Mikata Jomon Museum, a historical museum.
Mikata Go-ko is a place where nature, history, and culture harmonize, truly representing a quintessential "Japanese landscape."
