Drive on the beach—a unique experience in Japan! Enjoy the thrill of driving along the shore.
Senrihama Nagisa Driveway, located in Hakui City, Ishikawa Prefecture, is Japan's only beach where you can drive your car directly on the sand. Its beginnings trace back to around 1955, when a tour bus driver happened to drive on this beach and found it surprisingly smooth, leading to its popularity. The fine sand of Senrihama, about half the size of typical sand, becomes firm when it absorbs seawater, preventing cars from sinking. This allows for ordinary cars and large buses to drive along the shoreline. The approximately 8km-long Senrihama Nagisa Driveway offers more than just driving; you can also enjoy swimming, fishing, barbecues, and day camping. A swimming beach is open from mid-July to mid-August. However, be aware of jellyfish after Obon (a Buddhist festival in mid-August). For barbecues and day camping, remember to avoid directly burning the sand, and always take your trash and charcoal with you. Prioritize safety. Note that the area is completely dark at night due to the lack of streetlights. Be very careful of other vehicles. Since the Senrihama Nagisa Driveway may be closed due to weather or wave conditions, it is recommended to check the latest traffic information on "Ishikawa Michi Information Net" before your visit. Senrihama Nagisa Driveway is a precious tourist resource in Japan. Let's enjoy a safe and fun drive while respecting the rules.
