Ikegami Honmon-ji Temple is the head temple of the Nichiren sect, located in Ikegami, Ota-ku, Tokyo. It enshrines the remains of Nichiren Daishonin and is the main temple of the Nichiren sect. Its origins trace back to the late Kamakura period when Nichiren Daishonin established a hermitage on Ikegamiyama. Later, during the Edo period, it prospered after receiving temple lands from Tokugawa Ieyasu.
The temple grounds feature many highlights, including a magnificent five-storied pagoda and the main hall enshrining Nichiren Daishonin's remains. The five-storied pagoda, rebuilt in 1958, stands 45 meters tall and is a striking wooden structure visible from afar. The main hall, rebuilt in 1716, houses the remains of Nichiren Daishonin, as well as numerous Buddhist statues and paintings.
