An urban oasis of greenery! This riverside park along the Ohyokogawa River is perfect for strolling, jogging, and cycling.
Ohyokogawa Aqua Park is a Sumida Ward park located in Azumabashi, Sumida-ku, Tokyo. This extensive park, approximately 1800 meters long, was created by reclaiming a large portion of the Ohyokogawa River, which flows through Sumida Ward. The area previously suffered from severe land subsidence due to groundwater pumping by nearby factories. Low-lying areas were at risk of flooding. To address this, the northern part of the Ohyokogawa River was dammed, and the water level was lowered below sea level through continuous drainage before reclamation. The park opened on April 1, 1993. Much of the river was filled in, creating streams and planting trees, transforming it into a vibrant aqua park. It measures 30-40 meters wide, 1.85km long, and covers approximately 63,343 square meters. The park is divided into five zones from north to south: Tsurigawaran (flower garden and fishing pond), Kappagawaran (children's playground), Biotope/Hanamomiji (lush valley and diverse biotope), Palette Plaza (open event space), and Blue Terrace (sports field). Ohyokogawa Aqua Park offers a green escape in the city, perfect for leisurely strolls, jogging, and cycling. It's also conveniently located near major attractions like Tokyo Skytree and Kinshicho Station.
