Overview
Aqua World Ibaraki Oarai Aquarium, located in Oarai-machi, Higashiibaraki District, Ibaraki Prefecture, is a top-class large aquarium on the Pacific Ocean. It underwent a massive renovation from the previous Oarai Aquarium, costing approximately 16.5 billion yen (including 15 billion yen in construction costs), and opened in March 2002 as a comprehensive marine museum incorporating museum and science museum-style exhibits.
The aquarium's symbol, the shark, is a major focus, with 55 species (as of April 2017) – the largest collection in Japan. It also features Japan's largest ocean sunfish tank (270 tons, with 8 individuals as of April 2017; the highest number recorded was 13) and one of the world's largest stuffed ocean sunfish, among other precious exhibits.
In addition, there are thrilling dolphin and sea lion shows, a kids' land, and much more to entertain visitors of all ages.

15 minutes by Ibaraki Kotsu bus (bound for Aqua World Oarai or Naka Minato) or the Kaiyu-go sightseeing bus from Oarai Station on the Kashima Rinkai Railway Oarai Kashima Line.
6 minutes by Ibaraki Kotsu bus (bound for Mito Station via Oarai Coast) from Naka Minato Station on the Hitachi-Naka Seaside Railway Minato Line.
Alternatively, it's a 30-minute walk from Naka Minato Station.
