Bihoro Pass is a mountain pass located on the border between Teshikaga and Bihoro towns in eastern Hokkaido. From its 525-meter elevation, you can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of Lake Kussharo (Kussharo-ko), Japan's largest caldera lake. This makes it a popular sightseeing spot.
The panoramic view of the lake, Nakajima Island in the center of the lake, the surrounding mountains, and sometimes even a sea of clouds, will captivate you. At sunset, you can enjoy the magical sight of the sky painted in crimson hues reflecting on Lake Kussharo, and at night, the starry sky is breathtaking.
Bihoro Pass is also a popular drive course. The autumn foliage season is particularly beautiful, with the surrounding mountains ablaze in red and yellow. In winter, you can experience the stunning contrast of a frozen Lake Kussharo against the snowy landscape.
Bihoro Pass is well-equipped with observation decks, rest areas, and shops to ensure a comfortable visit. The area also has numerous hot springs and campsites, making it an ideal tourist hub.
Bihoro Pass is a representative Hokkaido sightseeing spot where you can enjoy magnificent nature and beautiful scenery. We highly recommend a visit.
