Hōzuka Kofun

Overview

Hōzuka Kofun is a kofun (tumulus) located in Matsusaka City, Mie Prefecture, and designated as a National Historic Site. Believed to have been built in the late 5th to early 6th centuries, it's a large keyhole-shaped kofun approximately 100 meters long and 15 meters high. Hōzuka Kofun is remarkable not only for its size but also for its significant unearthed artifacts. Its boat-shaped haniwa is among the largest in Japan, its intricate craftsmanship showcasing the advanced technology of the time.
