Ishiwariyama, selected as one of the Yamanashi 100 Famous Mountains, offers stunning views of Mount Fuji and Lake Yamanaka. At the summit, you'll find Ishiwari Shrine, a popular power spot where it's said that circling the crack in the sacred rock three times will grant your wishes.
Ishiwariyama is a 1412-meter mountain located on the border of Yamanakako Village, Minamitsuru District, Yamanashi Prefecture; Oshino Village; and Tsuru City. It belongs to the Doshi mountain range, connecting to Go-Shotaiyama to the north and Shakushiyama to the west via Nijukuma Pass. Ishiwari Shrine, situated at the eighth station on the east side of the summit, features a large rock with a prominent fissure, giving the mountain its name. From the summit, you have a magnificent view of Mount Fuji directly ahead, Lake Yamanaka to the lower left, and the Southern Alps in the distance to the right. Ishiwariyama is designated as one of the Yamanashi 100 Famous Mountains and is known for being relatively easy to climb. The well-maintained trail makes it accessible to beginners. The typical route starts from Yamanakako Interchange Plaza Kirara, passes Ishiwari Shrine, and continues to the summit. This approximately 5km course takes about 3 hours. Ishiwari Shrine, located at the eighth station of Ishiwariyama, is said to be connected to the legend of the "Heaven's Rock Door" from the Kojiki (the oldest extant chronicle of Japan). The sacred rock, approximately 15 meters tall, is split down the middle, giving the shrine its name. There's a local belief that circling the crack in the sacred rock three times clockwise will bring good fortune, making it a popular power spot. Climbing Ishiwariyama offers a fantastic hiking experience combining stunning natural beauty and a visit to a powerful spiritual site. Enjoy the revitalizing experience and breathtaking views from the summit.
