Explore the beautiful gardens and former estate of a wealthy Edo-era family, offering stunning seasonal views. Autumn's foliage is particularly breathtaking!
Horri Garden is a nationally designated Place of Scenic Beauty located in Tsuwano-cho, Shimane Prefecture. This area, once rich in silver and copper, was a tenryo (directly controlled territory) of the Tokugawa Shogunate. The Horri family served as hereditary copper mine elders under the Omori magistrate. In 1887, the 15th generation, Fujuro, created the current garden. The Rakusanso, a Sukiya-style guest hall with the Horri family's mountain as a backdrop, stands at the heart of the garden, welcoming visitors. The garden features diverse landscapes, including a thirteen-story pagoda, snow-viewing lanterns, and a waterfall, offering beautiful views throughout the year. The autumn foliage is especially magnificent, painting the garden in vibrant reds and yellows—a truly awe-inspiring sight. Shrouded in tranquility, Horri Garden offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. It’s a place where time seems to slow down, allowing you to relax and reconnect with nature and history. Come and experience a moment of serenity and rejuvenation.
