Hara Museum ARC is a contemporary art museum that opened in Shibukawa City, Gunma Prefecture in 1988. It reopened in April 2021 after merging with the original Hara Museum in Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo, and undergoing renovations.
Designed by architect Kisho Kurokawa, the building is situated on a vast site overlooking Mount Haruna, offering bright, open spaces filled with natural light. The museum houses works by renowned contemporary artists from Japan and abroad, including Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Othoniel, and Yayoi Kusama.
Outdoor sculptures are scattered throughout the grounds, creating a harmonious blend of nature and art. The garden boasts a vibrant array of seasonal flowers, offering beautiful scenery year-round.
Hara Museum ARC is a place not only to engage with the world of contemporary art, but also to refresh your mind and body in a space where nature and art coexist harmoniously.
Access is approximately 18 minutes by bus from JR Shibukawa Station. Get off at the Kanai bus stop and walk about 10 minutes. Ample parking is available for those arriving by car.
