Overview

Tenchuzan Raikyu-ji Temple is a Rinzai Zen Buddhist temple of the Eiganji school located in Takahashi City, Okayama Prefecture. It is said to have been established in the late Kamakura period by Ashikaga Takauji. Later, Ueno Yorikyu, the lord of Bitchu-Matsuyama Castle, restored the temple, incorporating his name into the temple's name to become "Ankoku Raikyu-ji Temple". Raikyu-ji Temple is famous for its karesansui garden designed by Kobori Enshu, designated as a Place of Scenic Beauty. The Zen garden-style karesansui, the Horai Garden, which uses Mount Atago as a borrowed landscape, offers a serene and elegant view that soothes the soul. Next to the garden are the main hall and the library of Raikyu-ji Temple, allowing you to feel the weight of history. Beyond the karesansui garden designed by Kobori Enshu, Raikyu-ji Temple also boasts a tranquil environment surrounded by beautiful nature. Enjoy the changing scenery throughout the year, with stunning cherry blossoms in spring and vibrant autumn foliage attracting many visitors. Raikyu-ji Temple is a peaceful haven where history, nature, and culture harmoniously coexist. Be sure to visit!
