A vast coastline stretching approximately 19km, offering magnificent views of Suruga Bay. The beautiful contrast between the pine forest and white sand is a major attraction.
Senbonhama Beach is a coastal area in Numazu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, and becomes a lively beach during the summer months. The expansive coastline, stretching approximately 19 kilometers, provides stunning panoramic views of Suruga Bay, and the beautiful contrast between the pine forest and the white sand is captivating. A seawall and the Senbon Matsubara pine grove separate the beach from the city, creating a breathtaking view of gentle waves and blue skies that will enchant any visitor. Senbonhama Beach once faced a serious problem of coastal erosion. This was attributed to factors such as the impact of coastal waves due to the breakwater at Numazu Port and rising sea temperatures due to global warming. However, the "Nagisa Refresh Project" was launched in 1991, involving the construction of artificial reefs and sloping breakwaters, and beach nourishment. This project gradually restored the beach, and today, a beautiful coastline has been reborn. Senbonhama Beach can be seen as a symbol of the coexistence of nature and humanity. Although it once faced severe environmental problems, the beautiful coastline has been restored through the efforts of the people. When visiting Senbonhama Beach, please take some time to appreciate the beauty of this restored coastline. Senbonhama Beach is also known as a venue for various events. Until 2011, the "Sunset Pageant," a fireworks display sponsored by local citizens, was held in late August. This festival, along with the "Numazu Summer Festival and Kano River Fireworks Display" held at the end of July, was one of the representative firework displays in the region. Every year on January 1st (New Year's Day), a winter swimming competition is held at Senbonhama Beach, organized by the Numazu Swimming Federation. People of all ages from within and outside Shizuoka Prefecture gather, performing thorough warm-up exercises before energetically diving into the sea. Anyone who is healthy is welcome to participate freely on the day. Senbonhama Beach is a place full of life, where nature and humanity coexist. We highly recommend a visit.
