Located right next to the Yokohama Landmark Tower, this precious Meiji-era stone dry dock offers a stunning spot to appreciate history and the contrast with modern architecture.
Located right next to the Yokohama Landmark Tower, this Meiji-era stone dry dock is an indispensable part of Yokohama Port's history. Ships were docked by laying down wooden blocks (though not limited to wood; concrete and iron were also used) before flooding the dock. After the water was pumped out, the ships were inspected and repaired. This valuable structure offers a glimpse into the shipbuilding technology of that era. While no longer functional as a dry dock, it's now used as an event space, hosting various events. From within the dock, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the Yokohama Landmark Tower and Yokohama Port, a beautiful blend of history and modern architecture. The surrounding area also boasts various facilities and museums that tell the story of Yokohama, making it an ideal place for a combined visit. The Former Yokohama Dock Company No. 2 Dry Dock, showcasing the pinnacle of Yokohama's history and technology, serves as a crucial link between the past and future for us today.
