One of the oldest presumed houses in Japan, with a main building from the Muromachi period and a detached building from the Edo period, both designated as Important Cultural Properties.
The Hakogi Family Residence is an old house located in Tsukuhara, Yamada-cho, Kita-ku, Kobe-shi, Hyogo Prefecture, and is designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. It comprises a main building constructed in the Muromachi period and a detached building from the Edo period, making it known as one of the oldest presumed houses in Japan. The main building features a gable roof with thatched roofing, characterized by its extraordinarily large roof and low eaves. Many walls support the roof, resulting in a scarcity of windows and other openings. Inside, you can still see the hearth and stable that were once used. The detached building, constructed in the mid-Edo period, is adjacent to the main building. While originally a single structure before relocation, it was restored during dismantling and repair to resemble its original form and now stands as a separate building. The Hakogi Family Residence offers a valuable glimpse into the lifestyles and culture of the time, making it highly recommended for history buffs and architecture enthusiasts. The surrounding area boasts abundant nature, perfect for a relaxing stroll.
