Shirai Oomachi Wisteria Park is known as one of the best wisteria gardens in the Sanin region. From late April to mid-May, a breathtaking display of white, purple, and pink blossoms unfolds.
Overview
Shirai Oomachi Wisteria Park is a premier wisteria garden located in Shirai, Wadayama-cho, Asago City, Hyogo Prefecture.
Established in 1996, this park was created through the volunteer efforts of local residents. They collected 150 wisteria rootstocks from the surrounding mountains and grafted them with scions from renowned wisteria in Wake-machi, Okayama Prefecture.
The park opened in May 1999. It covers 7,000㎡, with 500m of wisteria trellises, some reaching 4m in width.
From late April to mid-May, a stunning spectacle of white, purple, and pink blossoms unfolds, with some wisteria flower clusters reaching an incredible 1m 45cm in length, swaying gently in the valley breeze.
The park also features a charming, hand-crafted 5m diameter water wheel and millhouse, evoking a nostalgic rural atmosphere. In April, daffodils bloom on the embankment, and in May, carp streamers against the backdrop of a 143,000㎥ irrigation pond create a magnificent scene.
Surrounded by lush green mountains and filled with the sweet fragrance of wisteria, Shirai Oomachi Wisteria Park offers a refreshing escape and a taste of authentic Japanese countryside charm.
