Kuroshima is a small island, approximately 3km in circumference, located in Usuki Bay in Usuki City, Oita Prefecture. It offers a private beach-like atmosphere with untouched nature. Kuroshima is also historically significant as the location where the English navigator William Adams (Miura Anjin) landed on March 16th, 1600 (April 19th, 1600 in the Gregorian calendar) aboard the 'Liefde'. The island features the Miura Anjin Memorial Park, with a monument and museum commemorating his landing, and the 'Liefde' Arrival Memorial Park with a statue of Jan Joosten. Kuroshima Beach is also selected as one of Japan's best beaches by the Ministry of the Environment, boasting crystal-clear waters perfect for swimming. A campsite is also available on the island, allowing visitors to stay overnight in tents. Stargazing at night offers a unique experience unlike anything found in urban areas. Kuroshima is a captivating island offering a rich blend of nature and history. We highly recommend a visit.
