Overview

Mitaya Onsen is a hot spring located in Mitaya-cho, Gamagori City, Aichi Prefecture, nestled in the inner reaches of Mikawa Bay. Boasting a history of 1200 years, it has thrived as a spa town since ancient times. Located within the Mikawa Bay Quasi-National Park, it's surrounded by a naturally beautiful environment. The onsen town features Ryokans (traditional Japanese inns) and hotels lining the Mitaya Coast, preserving its old-world charm while simultaneously gaining popularity as a marine resort in recent years. The onsen town features onsen stands and foot baths, allowing for casual onsen enjoyment. Behind the onsen town lies Mount Kofuku, from whose summit you can enjoy panoramic views of Mikawa Bay's islands and, on a clear day, even the Atsumi Peninsula and Enshu Nada coastline. The summit is home to a statue of Kobo Daishi (a renowned Buddhist monk) and Kongoji Temple, with well-maintained walking trails allowing for a leisurely nature experience. Since 1993, Mitaya Onsen has hosted "Try Oyuron," a unique onsen circuit involving participating lodging facilities drawing water from the hot springs.
