Ureshino Onsen, known as one of Japan's top three beauty-enhancing hot springs, is characterized by its silky smooth, viscous water. The onsen town offers many delicious local treats, including onsen-yudo-fu (hot tofu cooked in onsen water).
Overview
Ureshino Onsen is a hot spring resort located in Ureshino-cho, Ureshino-shi, Saga Prefecture. Known as one of Japan's three major beauty-enhancing hot springs, it is a registered trademark of Ureshino City under the name "Saga・Ureshino Onsen."
Its history stretches back to ancient times; the earliest record appears in the "Hizen no Kuni Fudoki," a geographical record compiled in the Nara period, describing it as a hot spring that "cured the illnesses of all people." Legend says Empress Jingo discovered the hot spring upon returning from her campaign to Korea, using it to soothe her weary soldiers, exclaiming, "Ana, ureshiya!" (How delightful!), which gave rise to the name "Ureshino."
Ureshino Onsen's water is a sodium-hydrogen carbonate-chloride spring, a type of heavy carbonate spring known for its unique viscosity. Soaking in the onsen leaves skin feeling smooth and supple, hence its reputation for enhancing beauty.
The Ureshino Onsen town offers an array of delightful local cuisine, including onsen-yudo-fu (hot tofu cooked in onsen water) and Ureshino tea, made with locally grown tea leaves. Enjoy strolling through the charming streets, admiring the tea plantations, and experiencing the abundant natural beauty of this hot spring resort.
Ureshino Onsen is the perfect place to unwind, rejuvenate your body and soul, and escape the everyday stresses of life. We highly recommend a visit!
