Ahase Bijiru is a shrine in Ahase, Okinawa City, famous for prayers for childbirth and safe delivery.
This shrine is a central place of worship in the Ahase area, enshrining a pair of sacred stones, representing yin and yang, brought back from the sea. These stones, called "Bijiru" in Okinawan, are objects of faith.
Ahase Bijiru is said to offer blessings for safe childbirth, conception, good health, and safe travels. Many people visit every year to offer prayers, especially on the Inu no Hi (Dog Day), when many pregnant women visit wearing their belly bands.
The grounds are well-maintained with a main hall, torii gates, and a chozuya (water basin), offering a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere.
In March 2010, the main hall, first torii gate, second torii gate, and chozuya of Ahase Bijiru were designated as tangible cultural properties of Okinawa City.
With three parking spaces available, it's conveniently accessible by car.
Ahase Bijiru is a power spot where you can experience Okinawan history and culture. It's an ideal place not only for prayers for childbirth and safe delivery but also for relaxation and rejuvenation. Be sure to visit!
