Located in Aoi-ku, Shizuoka City, Rinzai-ji Temple is the family temple of the Imagawa clan, who flourished during the Sengoku period (Warring States period), and is also known as a place where Tokugawa Ieyasu spent his youth. At the age of 11, Ieyasu became a hostage of Imagawa Yoshimoto and studied academics and martial arts at this temple. Rinzai-ji boasts many historically significant sites, including the room where Ieyasu studied, Yoshimoto's mausoleum, and the mausoleum of Ieyasu's father, Matsudaira Hirotada. The temple's garden is designated as a Place of Scenic Beauty, offering beautiful views throughout the year. Cherry blossoms abound in spring, and the autumn foliage is breathtaking. Rinzai-ji is a recommended spot for history buffs and nature lovers alike. Be sure to visit!
