Find peace and tranquility in a serene space surrounded by history and nature.
Jokoji Temple is a Shingon sect Buzan school temple located in Obuse-machi, Nagano Prefecture. It boasts historical structures, including a Yakushi-do (Yakushi Hall) from the Muromachi period. In recent years, it's also become known as a popular slacklining spot. Beyond slacklining, the temple grounds offer various attractions, including a pathway paved with natural stones and a tranquil garden. As you walk the temple path, a verdant tunnel created by towering trees on either side leads you into a world of serenity. At the end, you'll find the beautiful main hall with its thatched roof. Built during the Muromachi period, this hall has only increased in grandeur over the centuries. Inside, the main Buddha, Yakushi Nyorai (Bhaishajyaguru), rests, offering a peaceful presence to soothe the soul. A slackline is set up beside the main hall. Slacklining involves walking on a thin, taut strap, similar to tightrope walking. It's accessible to all, making it enjoyable for people of all ages. Other historical structures such as a bell tower, kitchen building (kuri), and tea room are scattered throughout the grounds. The garden is also beautiful; the cherry blossoms in spring and autumn foliage captivate visitors. Jokoji Temple is a serene space surrounded by history and nature, perfect for those seeking rest and rejuvenation.
