Overview

The Joidai Ranch Observatory is a 550-meter-high viewpoint located in Nanae-cho, Hokkaido, renowned for its spectacular views of Mount Hakodate and the Onoo Plain. Located approximately 14 kilometers by car from the center of Nanae-cho, the observatory sits near the summit of the Skyline at the foot of Mount Nanae. The road leading to the observatory, known as the "Joidai Skyline," is a winding road connecting the center of Nanae-cho and the popular tourist destination of Onuma. This Skyline is a popular drive course offering diverse scenery, from the fresh greenery of early summer to the vibrant autumn foliage. From the observatory, you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view, including Mount Hakodate, the Onoo Plain, and the majestic mountains such as Mount Komagatake in the distance. At night, the glittering Hakodate cityscape creates a breathtaking "Seven Stars Night View," resembling a scattering of jewels. This night view offers a different perspective from the one seen from Mount Hakodate, allowing you to experience the city from a unique angle.
