Seimei Jingu Shrine has long been a center of faith, dedicated to Abe no Seimei, a brilliant onmyoji of the Heian period. Seimei excelled in divination, astronomy, and magic, and his legendary stories continue to be told today. The shrine grounds hold many places associated with Seimei, including the site of his former residence and what is believed to be the location of his astronomical observatory. Numerous objects featuring the five-pointed star, a symbolic figure in onmyodo (Yin and Yang) practices used by Seimei, are scattered throughout the grounds. Known as a power spot, Seimei Jingu Shrine is said to imbue visitors with energy. Take your time exploring, soaking in the powerful energy of Seimei. Various omikuji (fortune slips) and omamori (charms) are available, believed to impart Seimei's blessings. The shrine hosts various events throughout the year, including Setsubun (Bean-Throwing Festival) and Natsugoe (Summer Crossing Festival). Check the event calendar for an even richer experience.
