The Aketo Coast seawall, originally 9 meters high, was swept away by the Great East Japan Earthquake tsunami, showcasing the immense destructive power of the waves. The tsunami overwhelmed the seawall, devastating coastal communities. The remaining structure serves as a powerful reminder of the tsunami's impact. Walking along the observation path, you'll see exposed concrete and reinforcing bars, a scene that is truly shocking. Information panels display photos, videos, and testimonies from that day, reinforcing the understanding of the tsunami's horror. The Aketo Coast seawall is more than just a ruin; it's a vital place for future generations. We hope this site will raise awareness of tsunami dangers and enhance disaster prevention preparedness.
