The Marukin Soy Sauce Museum was opened in 1987 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the founding of Marukin Soy Sauce. The building, which was renovated from a factory built in the early Taisho era, is one of the largest Gassho-style structures in Japan and is designated as a National Registered Tangible Cultural Property. Inside the museum, the history and manufacturing methods of soy sauce are introduced using tools and panels that were used from the Meiji era. The tunnel in the passageway is made by hollowing out a large barrel that was actually used, and its size is amazing. In the adjacent factory, you can see soy sauce being squeezed using large machines through a glass window. At the product center, limited edition products that can only be purchased here and "soy sauce ice cream" made with "raw soy sauce" brewed in a natural brewing cellar are popular. The subtle flavor of soy sauce and the rich taste of milk are a perfect match, and you can enjoy a caramel-like aroma. The "Hishio no Sato", where soy sauce breweries stand side by side, is located in the surrounding area, and a stroll is also recommended. Immerse yourself in the aroma of soy sauce and experience the history and culture of Shodoshima.
