The Otokoyama Sake Brewing Museum, located in Asahikawa City, Hokkaido, showcases the sake brewing culture of 'Otokoyama.' Founded in 1661 (Kanbun era), it's an established sake brewery with over 350 years of history. The museum displays precious documents, sake vessels, and literature from the Edo period, allowing visitors to learn about the history and techniques of sake brewing. There are also videos explaining the brewing process, and exhibits of tools used in sake production. During the brewing season, you have the chance to observe the brewing process firsthand. An adjacent shop offers tastings of 'Otokoyama' sake, along with sake vessels and other merchandise. In the tasting corner, you can enjoy seasonal and museum-exclusive sake. On the premises, you can also collect "Enmei-Choju no Mizu" (water of long life and prosperity), the water used in Otokoyama's sake brewing – a mellow-tasting water drawn from the underground water of the Daisetsu Mountains. The area around the museum offers beautiful scenery throughout the year. Cherry blossoms abound in spring, while summer brings a lush garden for relaxation. Autumn features stunning autumn foliage, and winter offers snowy landscapes. The Otokoyama Sake Brewing Museum is a recommended tourist spot not only for sake lovers but also for those interested in history and culture.
