Overview

The Water Chapel is a chapel designed by architect Tadao Ando based on his philosophy that "a space carved from untouched nature by human will is a sacred space." The approach through the birch forest sets the stage for an otherworldly experience. Inside, you can engage all five senses with the elements of nature: water, light, greenery, and wind. With the glass doors open, the space merges seamlessly with the majestic surrounding landscape. The cross placed in the 15cm-deep water and the flowing water at the altar create a sacred atmosphere, captivating visitors and making it a special place for more than just weddings. The Water Chapel is open to the public, not just for weddings, allowing everyone to experience its beauty. At night, it's illuminated, revealing a different, enchanting atmosphere.
